Join the Newport News Public Library

The following individuals are eligible to receive a library card:

• Any resident of the City of Newport News
• Any verifiable resident of the State of Virginia
• Any out-of-state resident with a verifiable local address
• There is no minimum age for a child to receive a library card.

There are two types of library memberships: E-Memberships and Standard Memberships. For either type of membership, begin by registering through our Online Catalog site.

4. How do I borrow a book or DVD that NNPL doesn't own?

You can borrow material from other libraries through the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) program.  All you need is a valid Newport News library card in good standing.  Visit the Interlibrary Loan page for more details! 

If there is a specific title, author, or series that is hard to find and you would like to see it in our library, or maybe you think we need to have more information about a specific subject, you may fill out the online Purchase Suggestion Form to submit your suggestion!  All requests will be evaluated based on our library collection development policies and the availability of funds. Please include only one title, author, series or subject per request.
